The Edmonton Indy event for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 returns to Alberta after a one-year hiatus. The Edmonton 100 on the 2.256-mile, 13-turn temporary circuit at Edmonton City Centre Airport is slated to take the green flag on Sunday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. MT.
Driving the #83 Williams Scotsman Chevrolet in this event has been in the works for some time for Admiraal but with it also comes a few nerves. "This will be my first road course event and my first race in this series," stated Admiraal. "Plus, every one I know will be here so I just want to have a good showing."
Admiraal may be a rookie in the series but he has nine years of experience behind the wheel of go-karts, sprint cars, and stock cars. Competing on a road course is just the next step in his racing career and one that he is excited about.
"I can't wait to get on track," Admiraal offered. "The team has worked really hard to get to this point and we are prepared and ready for the challenge. Ever since the first time I strapped into a race car, I knew I wanted to race and racing against the best stock car drivers in Canada this weekend is going to be exciting." Admiraal talks about the Edmonton Indy event on Global TV.
Admiraal will be on track today for two practice sessions followed qualifying at 4:50pm MT. The starting field for the race is 26 cars, including provisionals. The first 21 cars will qualify through NASCAR Road Race (group) qualifying procedure with the remaining five spots being awarded through the provisional process. The race Sunday morning will be 28 laps covering 63.16 miles (101.66 kilometers).
Admiraal Racing is owned by Menno Admiraal, a successful business entrepreneur and owner of Western Camp Services Ltd. based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The team is led by Driver/Director of Race Operations Ian Admiraal and supported by crew members: Theo, Badge, Daniel, Nolan, Adam, Dan and Ben. Admiraal Racing has corporate partnerships with Williams Scotsman, Western Camp Services, Paradise RV, Gee & Gee Racing, and Emond Racing.
The Admiraal Racing schedule for 2012 will feature the team competing in over 24 races in four different racing series though November. For the complete schedule click here. You can follow the Admiraal Racing team all season long on their website, at NASCAR Hometracks, and Racing West.
